Number 1

Looking out for numero uno! Sometimes this is the philosophy of many people. If you are a leader who has that mentality you may be doing yourself, your employees, and your company a big disservice. A leader really needs to have you first me second mentality. It really becomes an issue to make sure you are taking care of those around you before you take care of yourself. If you take care of those around you first you will actually be helping yourself. That may seem counter intuitive but it really works. When you only take care of yourself then people tend to resent you and not respect you. But if you are willing to help others you will find them helping you and doing what you ask this will in turn make you look better. Here are some steps you can make to take care of number 1 by taking care of those around you first. Listen - Listen to the needs of employees and co-workers. Empower - Make sure your employees and co-workers have the ability to make decisions and follow through. Emp...

We've Tried That

Have you ever heard a leader say the words "We've tried that, it doesn't work". Are these the words of a true leader. I don't think so. I have heard that phase used a lot by people in influential positions. I have never understood why they would utter such defeat. A leader needs to utter encouragement and use gentle guidance. Future Leaders

The role I like as a leader is the ability to help shape future leaders. Managing people is much different than leading people. Managing is making sure everything is done correctly and making sure the place doesn't break out in chaos. Leading on the other hand is showing others how to do what is right and letting them flex their independent muscles by trying out new things. What are you doing to help grow new leaders? Are you making sure that if one of your people has a skill and a passion that you encourage that and help them find ways to utilize that skill within your company. It is important that to keep employees engaged and excited about what they do that they get ownership of projects and opportunities to be leaders. Here are some ways you can help grow future leaders. Help them find ways to lead projects. Help find ways they can tap into their passion and work in areas they desire to learn more about. Encourage, Encourage and Encourage. Make sure you are grooming a...
