The Big Weekend

I would like to discuss an aspect of leisureship. We are in the throes of a long holiday weekend and just spent Thanksgiving celebrating the blessings and giving thanks for everything we have been provided. These weekends are supposed to be stress free and relaxing. We are supposed to spend time with family and friends enjoying their company. Thanksgiving is a great time for family, food and football. It is also a great time for leaders to relax and enjoy those three things. How did you spend your Thanksgiving? Sometimes people do other things during Thanksgiving evening and the weekend after. Friday is dubbed black Friday for the amount of money spent at stores on great shopping deals. Do you venture out on black Friday? It is starting to bleed over into Thursday and become black Thursday. I think it is crazy that stores open on Thanksgiving. I say let your leaders and workers relax that day and come into work the next day ready to be met by all the turkey hangover shoppers. ...

Minnesota State Fair 2012

I spent the day at the Minnesota State Fair with the family. I said a few days ago that I was going to write about my adventure at the state fair after we went. Since we went today, Labor Day I am writing about leisureship on a Monday instead of the weekend. The nice thing about the Minnesota State Fair is that they have a number of parking lots that you can park at and take a free shuttle bus to the fair. We did that so we didn’t have to pay for parking. My daughter won four tickets and my son is only four so all of us got in free today. That allowed us more money for food and fun. What did we eat and do at the fair today? What we ate: (Some of this we shared other items were enjoyed by individuals). ·          Pronto Pup ·          Bucket of Fries ·          Cheese Curds ·          Smoothie (My Son had this) ·...

The Great Minnesota Get Together

It has started. A Minnesota tradition that has transcended time and generations. That event is the Minnesota State Fair. Every year for 12 days at the end of August people come to the Minnesota fair grounds located in Falcon Heights Minnesota. They come to be entertained. They come to entertain. The come to eat and they come to watch the best that Minnesota has to offer. The fair has changed over the years but the one constant is the hunger for any food on a stick. My daughter won tickets to get into the fair and we are all looking forward to going. We have made a list of all the things we want to eat, see and do at the fair. The list continues to grow. State fairs are a great opportunity for leaders to spend their weekends or even a day off with family. It is a fun time but extremely exhausting. I don't go every year so it is more special to me because there are new things to see every year. Here are something I like to eat at the Great Minnesota Get Together. · ...

Birthday Bash

It has been a busy weekend. Today I spent time at my oldest daughter’s graduation ceremony from William Mitchell Law School. Yesterday we spent time celebrating another daughter’s 11 th birthday. Any time you spend time with family it is also a good time and being able to celebrate with family makes it even better. In yesterday’s blog I gave you some tips on how to create a less stress in your planning and celebrating the graduation of a loved one. Today I want to give you some essentials to making sure the person has a happy birthday when you are celebrating their birthday. ·          Food – Tray to always serve a ...

Shrimp on the Barbie

Every weekend I have been exploring ways that you as a leader can escape the grind of the leadership life and find something relaxing to do. By the title of this post you might think it is about a trip to Australia, that might be nice but you probably can't do that in a weekend from most parts of the globe. Instead it is about one of the greatest summer time activities here in Minnesota, barbecuing. What is your favorite grilling fare? Do you prefer gas or charcoal? Do you have a simple grill or a major cooking grill that allows you to create a whole meal on your grill. I enjoy eating grilled food and I do enjoy grilling. My favorite things to eat on the grill are ribs, fish and pork chops. Nothing beats a rack of ribs that when done just fall off the bone . I love to have salmon on the grill because fish is my favorite but it is also about preparation. Sprinkle that salmon fillet with lemon pepper and grill it up and enjoy. I haven't done chops in a while but when I did...
