I would like to find out from my audience what your leadership life is like? Do you find yourself a leader only in one aspect of your life or in all aspects of your life? Maybe you use different styles at work as opposed to your home. Are you a double agent when it comes to leadership, a Jekyll and Hyde type of situation when you lead. What I mean are you a nice leader in one area of your life and a tyrant in the other area of your life? I want to hear from you. Let me know how you lead in certain situations and if you lead differently and the reason why you lead differently.

The more I am out there viewing and working with leaders the more I realize that for each person there is a different style of leadership. Each person seems to find their own style and tweak it. Sure each one is a modification of a general style of leadership but they like to make it their own. This can have a positive impact or a negative impact depending on how you look at it. I will list three positive impacts and three negative impacts and then over the next several days I will discuss one of each. One of my goals for writing this blog is to come up with fun yet relavent ways to address the idea of leadership. Many of you may understand the various styles of leadership. However, making comparisons to everyday things helps to drive the ideas home. I recently did a series on leadership which compared aspects of leadership to superheroes. It was a fun series and I really enjoyed writing about it. May wheels in this brain of mine continue to squeek as I look for other fun ways to present leadership. Decades are known for certain events and I will compare those events to leadership styles. Have you ever taken a hot air balloon ride? I haven't but I hear you can see for miles on clear days and it is a fun and exhilarating experience. I would like to tell you about two leadership styles that I came up with based on the following story. This story is not my own I found it on-line and unfortunately I do not remember where I found it. I took a hot air balloon ride and there I was floating over the landscape and enjoying the scenery when I realized I was lost. We spent the last week looking at various leadership styles. We will continue to do so this week as well. I would like to try to focus on ones that I have come up with and given names to. Exemplary leadership is part of a speech I gave on leadership. It is similar to a servant leader however it isn't all about serving it is about setting examples and then making sure your followers are guided by your examples, integrity and unselfishness. Being an exemplary leader means you forge a path through the storm. You are the front runner setting examples for your followers and through it all maintaining a high level of integrity and honesty. An example of an exemplary leader are those people who were willing to sacrifice it all to help those devastated by the earthquake in Haiti. Today we will look briefly at People-oriented leadership. We have looked at a number of leadership styles already this week and will continue to do so next week. There are billions of people in the world and each one is confronted with a leadership role sometime in their life. Many will not have that role in their careers but may be confronted with leading in the community, church or activity. Whatever the position is those people need practical information that will help them discover the right leadership style for their role. People-oriented Leaders are focused on developing their team and the members of their team. they take an active role in making sure their members are successful in their jobs. This type of leadership style really helps with the building of the team and the growth of those within the team.
